I don't know about taxis there, but when I was in Bangkok a few years ago en route to Oz we used the tuk-tuks. It was cheap, but you nearly choked to death as they all pulled away from the traffic lights together. Had a good time exploring the city by river boat, and they were cool too, with the great big Ford engine on the back and a pole to steer with.
